Human Rights First provides free legal representation to asylum seekers in the New York City Metro Area, as well as in the Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles regions.

The organization assists individuals who cannot afford an attorney with asylum, withholding of removal, and protection under the U.N. Convention Against Torture (CAT), including detained asylum seekers.

Clients are represented free of charge by trained pro bono attorneys from partner law firms, supported by Human Rights First mentors.

The program serves people fearing persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, gender, or sexuality.
